What a great time we had with my mom and dad!! They arrived to Hiroshima station at 11:30 last Wednesday night, and we stayed up late talking and showing them the apartment, etc. It was soooooo great to see them!!!
Thursday we went to the peace park and museum, did some shopping and ate okonomiyaki for dinner. It was fun showing them around our city and pointing out our favorite places. We even discovered a wonderful cafe where Phil and I had never gone before, but was wonderful, so we'll have to go back. My parents loved okonomiyaki and it was fun to watch them make it as well.
Friday we took a street car to Miyajima. We had a great time looking at the shrines, shopping, and trying new foods. We had fried momiji manju... it was delicious. Momiji manju is Hiroshima's famous food. It's basically a pancake shaped like a maple leaf with different flavored fillings. My mom and dad enjoyed feeding the deer. We also took the ropeway to see the monkeys and we saw one!! I think it was the last one for the night and we almost missed it. Amazingly, while we were walking through the Itsukushima Shrine, we stumbled upon a shinto wedding, which is a very rare sight, so I put up a pic of the bride and groom, as well as a dancer who performed for the guests (and everyone else who happened to be walking along).
